Providence, RI
Renovated eighteenth century building
Designed by Nathaniel Greene, the Candace Allen house had been used by the Unitarian Church for ten years before being returned to its original residential use as a single family home. Brownlow Associates contracted to restore the exterior of this lovely eighteenth century building, replicating the original roof railings (which had been removed many years before), repairing trim (including the wood integral gutters), cleaning, repairing, and repointing the brickwork.
The complete restoration of this home received national recognition with a Preservation Award from the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission in 1997. In addition the restoration was honored by the Providence Preservation Society in 1998.
